Disclaimer
What this site is, and what it is not.
Who speaks here. This site is maintained by supporters of Charles (Chase) Merritt. The commentary, analysis, and conclusions presented here are the views of the site’s authors. Where statements of Charles Merritt are quoted, they are his own.
The documents. Court documents, transcripts, and exhibits reproduced on this site are drawn from the public record of People v. Merritt, San Bernardino County Superior Court No. FVI1404194, and from Bates-numbered discovery produced by the government in that case. Quotations from the trial record are cited to the Reporter’s Transcript so that readers may verify them independently. Personal information of third parties has been redacted where appropriate.
What we claim and what we don’t. This site argues that the jury did not see the full record, and it presents evidence and legal argument in support of a pending habeas corpus petition. Where the record supports a fact, we cite it. Where a question is open, we present it as a question. Nothing on this site should be read as asserting facts about any individual beyond what the cited record supports.
The verdict. Charles Merritt was convicted in 2019 and remains under that judgment while his petition is pursued. This site does not dispute what the courts have formally decided to date; it exists to argue, from the record, that those decisions should be revisited — and to let readers examine the evidence for themselves.
Comments. The public comment areas contain the views of their individual authors, not of this site. We do not pre-screen comments and are not responsible for their content.
Not legal advice. Nothing on this site is legal advice. Citations and legal discussion are provided for public information and advocacy.
